The Cork Puppetry Festival was established in 2014 by Dowtcha Puppets and is now run by the Cork Puppetry Company. Its core mission statement is to engage new audiences in the art of puppetry by providing opportunities to see the best of Irish and international acts all in one place.

Since its formation, the festival has entertained thousands of people with workshops, parades, and puppet shows. It has hosted companies from all over the world, and presented shows of all types of puppetry, whether it be shadow puppets, traditional marionettes, giant puppets, or sock puppets.

The festival is proud to have provided a platform for Irish and international puppeteers to showcase new works. In collaboration with the Dowtcha Puppets Youth Ensemble, it has also facilitated a number of debut performances by young and aspiring puppeteers.
